My Beauty Is…
It’s been a while my loves. How are you? How is life?
For me I have spent much of this year learning how to rest (haven’t quite mastered it, but it’s a practice right?) It’s also been a year of shedding, becoming and getting to know this new iteration of myself.
Boundaries have factored high on my priority list and that within itself has been a weighty challenge. Within all of this… shall we say reconfiguration? I have also been able to open myself up to an expansive portal of creativity and finally (whoooop) have allowed myself the space to complete the design of the My Beauty Is workshop.
I am actually beaming as I write this and my tummy is filled with butterflies - I am so looking forward to facilitating this experience which I have created unapologetically for Black women. In fact, I feel honoured and immensely grateful to be in a position to do so.
The Backstory
In October of 2020 (the year that changed everything),inspired by my personal journey with beauty and the resonance expressed from a simple shared post on social media - I decided to reach out to the women in my life and ask them to do the same. To share, to voice, to affirm.
21 women opened up their hearts to the world ( I like to think that I have global reach - this may or may not be true) and bravely shared their stories in the most profoundly magical ways.
Again the resonance was so moving that I decided to sit my ass down and design a workshop using my combined storytelling, wellness practitioner and community building expertise. I took my time.
I took my time because not only did I recognise the responsibility of holding space for women in such a sacred way, but also - I wanted the experience to be sumptuous in every way. From the physical space used, to the modalities chosen, I wanted the women who attended to feel seen, held and honoured.
So here we are.
The Workshop (or experience, because really that’s what it is)
Purpose - An immersive day experience created to affirm the beauty of Black women - a declaration of self.
This workshop invites participants to openly explore the oftentimes harmful and negative narratives surrounding Beauty and self worth as it relates to being a Black woman.
A necessary deep dive which will then lead to the reconfiguration of what being beautiful feels and looks like to us. This will be done through creative techniques and practices curated specifically for the purpose of this reclamation of self.
Outcome - Participants will leave the workshop with a more grounded sense of self, boosted confidence and acceptance of their inner and outer light. There will also be take-away practices which they can integrate into their lives beyond the 'bubble' of the workshop.
Workshop length - 5.5 hrs (approximate)
This time also includes refreshment and reflection breaks
Tools used by practitioner (me!)
